James W. Black

James W. Black is a Professor of Analytical Pharmacology Emeritus at King's College, London, England and also a Nobel Laureate in Medicine.

Dr. Black's special research interest concerns the interpretation of complex drug actions using mathematical models. Specifically, his interest in cardiovascular physiology drew him to research at Imperial Chemical Industries in London, England which led to the discovery of pronethalol, the first clinically evaluated beta-blocker. In 1988, he founded an independent research organization for promoting the rational basis for new drug research.

Dr. Black was knighted Sir James in 1981 and received the Nobel Prize for Medicine for discoveries of important principles for drug treatment in 1988.

He received a Doctorate of Medicine at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. After graduation, he spent 12 years in academic physiology successively at the Universities of St. Andrews, Singapore and Glasgow.

Edward D. Frohlich

Edward D. Frohlich is the Alton Ochsner Distinguished Scientist at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation and Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Lousiana.

Dr. Frohlich is internationally recognized for his investigative work in clinical and experimental hypertension. He is the author of over 900 peer-reviewed scientific papers and editor of several textbooks.

Dr. Frohlich has been elected to membership in the Association of American Physicians, American Society for Clinical Investigators, American Physiological Society and American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He has served as President of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics from 1973 - 1974 and as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research from 1988 - 1990.

Alberto Zanchetti

Alberto Zanchetti is the Director of the Centre for Clinical Physiology and Hypertension at the University of Milan, Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano.

Dr. Zanchetti maintains membership in several international medical societies and is on the educational boards of several scientific journals. Specifically, he is past President of the European Society of Hypertension and is currently a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Hypertension, of which he has been President, Vice President and Secretary. He is also past President of the European Society for Clinical Investigation.

Dr. Zanchetti was awarded the Riva-Rocci Award of the Italian Society of Hypertension in 1997 and in 1991 he was awarded the Henri Denolin Lecture of the European Society of Cardiology. In 1987 he gave the International Lecture of the British Cardiac Society and in 1986 he was awarded the Franz Volhard Lecture Award of the International Society of Hypertension.
